Two weeks ago, I finally got a free Saturday to do something that I had been dying to since the day I moved into Bombay, roam around with my camera. I walked around Bandra photographing dogs (they're so damn photogenic) and then later took a train to my favorite place in Bombay, Marine Drive. It's a great challenge photographing the true spirit of this place. But I was too exhausted to take up the challenge that day and decided to just sit and watch the splashing waves.

I love my camera.
One day we are going to start a family together- Me, my camera and our lenses.

This just made my day

Still In Underland

I watched Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland today. In 3D. And surprisingly the BIG cinemas at Kalyaninagar managed to show it in much better colors than Avatar.
I really liked the movie. It's Burton's version (which might make people like my sister re-think a watch), and briliant story-teller that he is, he pulls it off. It's not a patch on Vincent or The Corpse Bride, but finally watching a Tim Burton on the big screen does give you a high.
Being a designer my first thought when I see a movie is about the way it looks. And this looked beautiful, with it's frightening Cheshire Cat and the Mad Hatters' mad make-up.
Anne Hathaway's floofy White Queen act looks like it's a spoof on all of Disney's Princesses, which I'm sure all you Disney-haters out there can't wait to see. Johnny Depp is el perfecto as usual and Alan Rickman's voice as the caterpillar made The Ratfinkle and me squeal like little girls. Mia Wasikowska's golden tangle kept reminding me of Blake Lively, but with much better acting skills.
As far as 3D movies go, I would pick Alice in Wonderland almost everytime over a movie like Avatar (I'm not trying to be different and cool, the story in the latter was dragged so much I actually fell asleep in the middle). Forget the Alice in Wonderland you read as a kid, and I guarantee that you will enjoy Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter (as the posters read).

Second the thought and I have been travelling everyday, via the old city of Pune, to the residential establishments of Erandwane where we're currently interning at Lokusdesign. This city has what you would call pain-in-all-the-wrong-places traffic. The roads are kutti lanes and it doesn't help that it also has the maximum number of two-wheelers.

Right now, without my friends in it, and with all these bad traffic experiences, I can't stand this place.

Unfortunately Sanju's new 500D (which I had to borrow for the shoot) refuses to let me open it's RAW images in photoshop. Need to download a plug-in for CS4.
Sigh! with this hostel internet. I wonder when I'll be able to do that.

I have come to the conclusion, that people talk about how thin you are, when they have nothing else to say.
When people gain weight aunties don't comment that. Why not? Well, i have all the answers today.
It's because, if you tell somebody that they've gained weight, that would be rude! And well the aunty is herself thinking in her head, oh my god! what will happen when she has kids!
But when you're blessed with my metabolism, aunties just hate you. Because they're all fat now with the gazillion kids they've had, and they're afraid that you will probably stay like that your entire life. And they say this in a way that should make you feel bad.
Well, it used to annoy me before, but since I have realized this, I'm as a cool as a cucumber.

First City Love

I keep talking about how amazingly awesome Bombay is. I don't exactly know what it is about the city, because it's crowded, like every other Indian city and has old and new, like most Indian cities, but still it has that certain quality ( I refrain from using the term "x-factor").

But, this post is not about Bombay, it's about Ahmedabad. The city which made me what I am. 16 years of my life were spent in this Gujju city of food. That's a lot, considering I'm only 21. Maybe it's because of the time that I spent there, or maybe it's because it's just a very simple city, I don't know, but this city, I know why I love.
1. It has my "firsts": First sleep over buddy, First Chuddy Buddy, First friend-who-acts-like-big-bro, First Boyfriend, First Rainy day bike ride, and blah blah.
2. It has all the food: I'm a vegetarian. But seriously, even if you were a non-vegetarian, this place has so much food, so many affordable restaurants, that you really would think you were in food heaven.
3. It has the gujjuness: Yes, yes, they are always the butt of jokes in every Bollywood movie, but they have to be the funnest and nicest people, ever!
4. It has NID: Need I say more?

For some of you, these probably aren't enough reasons to be head over heels in love.
But for me, sigh, I'm going to marry a guy version of Ahmedabad. ;)

First Day: Symbiosis NGH, Viman Nagar, Pune

I read blogs and think to myself that I must write. But frankly, strangely, I have nothing to say.

This feeling, me no like-o.

Anyway so as I was typing the above randomness, so I could get into the writing groove, I remembered something. My first day in Pune.

Huffy was lying on her bed, listening to music on her cool Sony Ericcson K750i. I had just come back up after saying good-bye to my parents and shedding come tears.

I sat reading, wishing to listen to some music. And then I met the Hafsah Jamil Amed Parkar. She talked. About everything. About herself. Just rambled on. I thought I was talkative. But well, she apparently had the gift to talk to strangers.

Then entered Sanjyot Telang. Who knew Hafsah Jamil Ahmed Parkar. Introductions happened. I ignored Sanjyot Telang. Because I didn't have anything to say. Sanjyot Telang conveniently thought I had an attitude. We then came out of my room. Waiting to get out. Waiting for Sanjyot Telang's room-mate Abhilasha Nandal to finish her bath. And then passed, Vidhya Appu. Who we stopped on the way and talked to. Not me, but the other two. And then Prachi Modi passed. She was forced to talk too. We then went for a walk around Viman Nagar.

Some of those friendships have lasted. Some haven't. I'm very grateful for those that have.

I love you guys. I seriously don't know what to do without you.

And thus endeth my random post. I like blogging. And it's randomness.

But what saddens me more, is that I wouldn't have done these things even if I wasn't on Facebook.

A very frustrated friend of mine was narrating an incident, about how 5 years ago, when he was in a restaurant in Kerala with a friend, they were asked to leave when they ordered for Chinese food, in English.

This came up when we were debating about Hindi being the National Language.

This thaka hua debate has been going on for ages.

I like how amazingly diverse our country is, and i really don't see the need for just one language binding us, there's English, which will bind us to the world and to each other. But i don't understand why so much fuss is made over having a national language.
